Article क्या है?

English Grammar में Article ऐसे words हैं जिनका प्रयोग किसी noun से पहले उसकी पहचान या reference को बताने के लिए किया जाता है। English में मुख्य रूप से तीन Articles होते हैं:

Articles को दो मुख्य categories में समझा जाता है:

Indefinite Articles: A और An
Definite Article: The

A, An और The में Basic Difference

A का प्रयोग कब होता है?

A का प्रयोग सामान्यतः singular countable noun से पहले तब किया जाता है जब noun की शुरुआत consonant sound से होती है।

1. किसी एक व्यक्ति या वस्तु के लिए

जब हम किसी singular countable noun का सामान्य या non-specific reference देते हैं, तब A का प्रयोग किया जा सकता है।

He is a teacher.
There is a chair in the room.

2. Profession बताने के लिए

Singular profession या occupation के साथ सामान्यतः A/An का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

He is a doctor.
She is a teacher.
He is an engineer.
She is an artist.

3. Rate या frequency बताने के लिए

A का प्रयोग कुछ expressions में per या each के अर्थ में भी किया जाता है।

Twice a day.
60 kilometres an hour.
Three times a week.

An का प्रयोग कब होता है?

An का प्रयोग singular countable noun से पहले तब होता है जब अगले word की शुरुआत vowel sound से होती है।

ध्यान रखें: Article चुनते समय केवल spelling नहीं, बल्कि sound महत्वपूर्ण है।

Important Rule:
A या An का चुनाव letter देखकर नहीं बल्कि pronunciation की शुरुआत वाली sound देखकर किया जाता है।

Vowel Letter और Vowel Sound में अंतर

यह Articles का सबसे important concept है। किसी word की spelling में vowel letter होने का मतलब यह जरूरी नहीं कि उसके पहले An ही आएगा।

Example: A University

University letter “U” से शुरू होता है, लेकिन इसका pronunciation “yu...” sound से होता है। इसलिए:

He is a university student.

Example: An Hour

Hour में “h” लिखा जाता है, लेकिन pronunciation में h की sound नहीं आती और word vowel sound से शुरू होता है। इसलिए:

I waited for an hour.

The क्या है?

The को Definite Article कहा जाता है। इसका प्रयोग तब किया जाता है जब हम किसी particular या identified person, place, thing या group की बात कर रहे हों।

1. जब noun पहले mention हो चुका हो

पहली बार किसी singular noun को introduce करते समय A/An आ सकता है। उसी noun को दोबारा specific रूप में refer करने पर The का प्रयोग हो सकता है।

Example:

I saw a dog in the street. The dog was very friendly.

पहले sentence में dog पहली बार introduce हुआ। दूसरे sentence में वही particular dog clearly identified है।

2. किसी specific object के लिए

Please close the door.
Turn off the fan.
Where is the book I gave you?

3. Unique things के साथ

कुछ unique objects या commonly understood unique entities के साथ The का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

4. Superlative Degree के साथ

Superlative forms के साथ सामान्यतः The का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

The का प्रयोग Geographical Names के साथ

Exam Tip:
Proper nouns के साथ Article का use हमेशा automatic नहीं होता। Name किस category का है, यह देखना जरूरी है।

The किन Proper Names के साथ नहीं लगाया जाता?

सामान्यतः individual persons के names के साथ The नहीं लगाया जाता।

Correct: Rahul is a student.

Incorrect in normal usage: The Rahul is a student.

इसी तरह सामान्य individual countries, cities और persons के names के साथ article का use उनके specific grammatical rules पर निर्भर करता है।

Zero Article क्या है?

कई situations में noun से पहले कोई Article नहीं लगाया जाता। इसे सामान्य grammar terminology में Zero Article कहा जाता है।

1. Plural Nouns को General Meaning में

जब plural noun का प्रयोग पूरी category को general sense में बताने के लिए हो, तो Article नहीं भी लगाया जा सकता है।

Example: Dogs are loyal animals.

2. Uncountable Nouns को General Meaning में

जब uncountable noun को general sense में use किया जाता है, तो Article की आवश्यकता नहीं हो सकती।

Article लगाने की आसान Trick

Step 1: पहले देखें noun singular countable है या नहीं।

Step 2: अगर singular countable है, तो देखें noun general है या specific।

Step 3: A/An की जरूरत हो तो spelling नहीं, pronunciation की first sound देखें।

Step 4: अगर noun specific/identified है तो The की possibility check करें।
